Our Story

Heir Island Wildlife Project was founded in autumn 2017 by a group of Heir Island residents. It aims to raise awareness on issues surrounding nature conservation and biodiversity both on land and in the sea through information and education.

Our Objectives

  • To promote and preserve the natural and traditional look and feel of Heir Island through supporting the proliferation of original island flora (including some unique and endangered species), fauna, and traditional pollinators whilst balancing the needs of people and nature.
  • To support the need recognised within national and international environmental agencies to conserve natural habitats in a sustainable way for future generations to enjoy.
  • To develop and establish relationships with similar groups and organisations on other islands of Ireland.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates and photographs of the island’s distinctive wildlife.

We want to hear from you! Come to the island for nature walks and share your photos and experiences with us. Reach out to us on Facebook and Instagram or use the hashtag #wildheirisland so we can find you!
